My laptop won’t let me log in

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7559 series. I turn it on and it powers up, and goes the the screen where you can enter your password to get in. But the password part doesn’t pop up, it just blurs the background picture when I press the Enter key. No matter what I do I can’t get it to pop up. I’m extremely frustrated by this. I have tried holding the shift key and clicking restart to get to the troubleshooting page but the laptop just restarts. Please help
