LUN resync failure on Symmetrix
We are using the VSS LUN-Resync functionality with EMC Symmetrix array and EMC VSS hardware provider on windows 2008 R2.
We are facing couple issues related to LUN resync operation.
Case 1:
When following steps are executed, the disk was not accessible from the host. We tried to online the LUN through disk management but it failed. After some time it disappeared from the host.
Steps:
- Configured the device with 1 STD and 2 BCV devices.
- Took first VSS snapshot using DiskShadow
- Took second VSS snapshot for same device using DiskShadow
- Ensured that the device is not in any synchronize relationship with other BCV device;
- Deleted the first snapshot.
- Lun re-sync operation with second snapshot/
- Checked the state of primary
Case 2:
Sometimes after LUN resync though the device state shows restored, LUN resync failed with error “RecoverSet VSS API failed with error
800423fe, signature could not be changed”. In this case it’s possible to online the LUN manually through diskmanagement.
anyone has any ideas / suggestions?
The VSS trace logs show the following errors that show that the disk could not be brought online after the resync operation:-
- [16:44:25.279 P:1AC4 T:2BC4 INCICHLH(0451) IOCTL] IOCTL sent: 70050 on device \\?\scsi#disk&ven_emc&prod_symmetrix#5&3442a86c&0&000138#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}

It looks like the framework is unable to get the drive layout of the disks they have to bring online and the error is logged on eventviewer.
thanks,
