EMC Powerpath DSM for clariion is attempting an operation on \device\MPIODisk3. the Type is noted in the dump data
Hey everybody,
I'm new to this forum and i have possibly a "stupid" (cq easy) question concerning Powerpath Version 5.3 (build 311))
I'm using this version of powerpath on a Exchange failover cluster ( Exchange 2007 with Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 )
Now at this moment one of the nodes has a storage port connected (one of 4 SP) with a broken Fiber cable.
This should not be a problem, but unfortunately it is.
It's not an issue of disks that are gone, but my Event log is filling up with events from MPIO: ( see example )
General : EMC Powerpath DSM for clariion is attempting an operation on \device\MPIODisk3. the Type is noted in the dump data
Log Name : Sustem
Source : MPIO
Event ID : 37
Level : Informational
User : N/A
This is beiing logged every second for every disk published to this server.
And this is causing a lot of side effects on the server for logging in / rebooting / ...
I know that powerpath is using some core elements of Microsoft MPIO.
So i tried tuning the parameters in the registry for MPIO:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\mpio\Parameters\RetryInterval and PathVerificationPeriod
But this is not helping at all.
Could someone please point me to a solution for this issue ?
Many thanks in advance !!!
Best regards,
Wesley

Hello and welcome,
There are a few solutions you may want to review to get a better understanding of why these messages occur. Here are some suggestions:
emc226744 - "EMC PowerPath DSM for CLARiiON is attempting an operation on \Device\MPIODisk#"
emc267357 - "Windows System EventLog: Event ID: 37: mpio Information 37 EMC PowerPath DSM for CLARiiON is attempting an operation on \Device\MPIODisk#. The Type is noted in the dump data."
emc246804 - "Streaming event ID 37 during file copy on cluster disk"
emc236331 - "RecoverPoint/CE: EMC PowerPath DSM for clariion is attempting an operation on \Device\MPIODiskXX"
These messages in the system event log can be filtered temporarily of course until your broken fibre is corrected. You may also want to run your server through HEAT to ensure it is configured correctly for connectivity to a Clariion. In Powerlink:
Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Environment Analysis Tools > Host Environment Analysis Tool (HEAT)
Hope this helps

You can try the following steps after scheduling a downtime:-
1. Take the host and the luns out of the storage group and create a new storage group and add the luns and Host to that storage group.
2. Make sure the disks are in a ready state and are not NR.
3. If still the same issue, try to upgrade powerpath to 5.5 SP1
