Creating a Report to show amount of data change on DMX2000 storage device
I am trying to locate a report or a tool that can be run on a DMX2000 storage system to figure out the rate of change of the data on the volumes. For example if the files take up 200GB on Monday but then on Tuesday they take up 300GB we can say the rate of change is 100GB, if this is consistent per day of the week then we know the change is about 100GB's a day. There might be a specific day where the rate of change is 400GB's but if I had a report I could run over a period of time then I would know what this rate of change is. No one who is administering the systems is able to tell me what this rate of change is on a daily basis.
Any suggestions.
Thanks

Sorry I wasn't clear - I mean growth rate. How much is changing each day. Thanks

Rate of change or growth rate ? I could have a database where 100G of data gets overwritten every day yet overall capacity is the same.

growth rate, if you were using VMAX and thin devices i would say look at the device growth but i know that DMX2000 does not support thin devices which means you are using traditional devices. I am afraid there is not a whole lot you can do from the array side. You need to get this information from the host itself, do you have EMC ControlCenter in the environment ?

If you have StorageScope (which is part of ECC) and you have host agents deployed, then you could report on file system growth.

Not sure about EMC ControlCenter but I can easily check. If we have it is there a report or a process we can run?

i have not used StorageScope in a while but i remember there were a lot of canned reports and you could also create your own. You can get some help on StorageScope in this discussion forum.

Thanks, I actually have an email into the IT group to see if we have StorageScope. So if we have it there is a standard report for file system growth that I can ask for or is it a report someone will have to figure out how to request? By the way you have been very helpful.
