Will the Venue 7140 operate on AC without the battery connected?

Can anyone tell me if their 7140 will run on AC if they disconnect the battery cable? I am trying to diagnose an issue and am sure it's either the motherboard or battery.

Background: Battery went critically low and turned off while running on battery power. Instead of plugging it in right away I closed the lid and went to sleep. Upon waking up I plugged it in and the charge light indicator would not come on. and the tablet would not turn on either. I can't get it to do anything other then when holding down the power button the orange/amber indicator light will turn on for about 3 seconds without flashing, then turn off.  When I charge the keyboard dock and use that with it, I can get the tablet to turn on the LED test mode flashing screen colors holding down volume down and I also get a vibrate when trying to power on with just the power button, but no screen activity.

I am using the dell charger it came with and the light is lit on that. I have tried disconnecting the battery and the bios battery and all cables and ssd and pressing buttons to reset the mainboard.
