Which Venue models can be upgraded to Pro/Enterprise
We are a school that is evaluating tablets for a potential classroom use. We have an EES and Enterprise Licensing, and we use SCCM 2012 SP1 for imaging. I'm curious which models of the Venue line can be upgraded to Windows 8.1 Professional or Enterprise to support domain logins?

Hey Alton,
Thanks for the query. According to an internal source I forwarded your question to:
The issue is around which OS to buy as the HW supports all flavors of Windows 8.1. With Windows 8 and newer OSes having their license key embedded in the BIOS -- they would need to ensure that they are purchasing Win 8.1 Pro or Enterprise with their tablets as they may not be able to use their Enterprise key with a system that was purchased with Win 8.1 Basic

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jeff ... interesting. The Latitude laptops we purchase from Dell all have Windows 8 home edition on them and then we upgrade with a volume license edition/key, and we've been doing that for years for devices from a number of manufacturers (we buy mostly Dell, but occasionally some others). We also purchased an ASUS VivoTab tablet hybrid last year that was able to be upgraded to Win 8 Pro, but Surface RT tablets cannot be upgraded due to their processor.
We are looking for low-cost Windows 8.1 tablets for classrooms, but unless we can put Pro or Ent on them, they really aren't very useful for students unless in 1:1 situations (since this is K-2 grade levels, we would be using these at 1:9 ratios - each tablet will support about 9 students).
