E6420 High Definition audio driver issue
Hi
I am getting a Build sequence readied for production to integrate the E6420 into production using SCCM
I have gotten all drivers sorted for the laptop I received.
A couple of days ago, I received a the same model only with a webcam
I built it using the Task sequence I have been using for the original model.
All went swimmingly bar one driver which is resisting all attempts to install
Currently in the Device Manager on the laptop under “other devices” is a yellow Question mark with “Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus”
Using the Service tag as a reference, I have downloaded the two possible downloads and tried installing them.
It looks very much like these are comprised of the drivers and the IDT audio CPL/Application.
But no matter what I do, I cannot get the correct driver to install
If I run the Exe’s (Either “IDT_92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO_A03_R297613.exe” or “DRVR_WIN_R297613.EXE”)
They complete and instruct me to reboot. Once rebooted the question mark remains in DEV MAN
If I manually point the Driver wizard to the extracted file/Folders, It claims that These are not the drivers I am looking for.
The OS is XPSP3
If there is anything I can add to this to make it easier to assist, Then let me know and I will gladly update

Unless I am mistaken that hotfix was created in 2004 and is applicable to XPSP2
I have XPSP3 on my machines.
Furthermore: This is not an issue on the first E6420 I recieved but IS on the second.indicating that my base build is OK but the new laptop has extra or different HW,. Sadly i am a thousand miles or so from the actual laptop and rely on another team for the hands on feedback
I have dug into the issue a little further and ID'ed the Vendor and Device (Conexant Modem) But cannot get these to install.
I am mining through and comparing MSINFO outputs currently and will repost when I get some clarity.
I appreciate your time, But ask, if in the light of my further information, whether there is anything more you (or anyone reading) may have thought of.
gratefully

/edit i am rebuilding the laptop and will try the conexant driver on a fresh rebuld
Laptop has re built
Using the DEV and VEN ID numbers
VEN_14F1
DEV_2C06
and going to http://www.pcidatabase.com/
I see that
14F1 = Conexant
and
2C06 = Conexant HD Audio SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Link of results
http://www.pcidatabase.com/search.php?device_search_str=2C06&device_search=Search
If i go to DELL website and use the service tag on the laptop I see the conexant modem under Service tag/XP/Communication
I have downloaded the Application The Driver and the Utility
I can install The application and UItility fine
The Bang persists however
If I point t to the exrtracted driver it says it is the incorrct version
More to come...

Needs to have a registry edit to trick the OS that it is SP@. APllied but no Joy
I am guessing that tis fix is UA only and not for this issue which I am convinced is Modem as indicated by Post above.
Rebuilding the laptop again. I have been asked to specifically not include R288017.exe
But will do so as I am getting a bunch of pressure aplied to get this Prod ready
Oh the horror.
