Driver Installation Issues Deploying Win7x64 To E5440/E6540/M6800 Via MDT
Hi All,
I am experiencing an intermittent driver installation issue while using MDT 2013 LiteTouch when deploying custom Windows 7 x64 image to Latitude E5440, Latitude E6540, and Precision M6800. These are the models I have experience this issue with so far, but I also have E7240/E7440 from this generation that I have not seen it occur with yet. However I don't image as many of those.
About 1 out of every 10 deployments results in the deployment hanging at "Setup is installing drivers (60%)..." and it takes several hours to reach 100% where it stays indefinitely.
My setupapi.dev.log files have shown exit failures (again not consistently) for drivers of the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Protection and Intel Management Engine Interface most notably.
I am aware that the KMDF 1.11 update is probably what everyone will think is the problem when they first read this, but I have confirmed more than once that the update KB2685811 is integrated into my reference image via DISM and built using MDT as well. I have also tried adding the update as a package in my MDT deployment share to be injected when the image is deployed and it made no difference. I have not built a new WIM file yet since I know the update is present both through Windows itself and through DISM.
I have read posts such as these below, but they have not helped me find a resolution.

If I exclude these drivers I previously mentioned I don't seem to have the issue and I could install them as post-deployment applications, but I don't see that as a real solution.
Any ideas?

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the exact same issues with the exact same models. We also have E7240's and E7440's that image successfully every time and never exhibit this issue. I've tried updating my build to contain all of the latest and greatest windows patches. I've update all of the Dell driver packs to the latest version. I've even flashed the BIOS on these machines out of desperation but nothing seems to fix it 100% of the time.
I have applied the KMDF 1.11 patch and can verify on other machines that image properly that the update is installed. If I let the system crank away overnight it does eventually finish and all of the device drivers appear to be installed and working properly according to the device manager but this is not ideal. We've gotten to the point where we don't recommend these systems to users due to the amount of time it takes us to prepare them. If anyone has any ideas as to what might be causing this issue, please let us know.
