Dell System Software DSS

I find Dell System Software confusing...

So I "installed" it on 2 computers : first I don't think you should call it install if it doesn't leave anything behind that you can execute and have to reinstall it every time you want it to do what it's supposed to do.

So when I run it, it seems to run fine and finally says you have to restart the computer.

But I can't really see if the hotfixes were installed or not...

I can see in the .tmp file that they were downloaded to "C:\Program Files\Dell\System Update" (and then the folder is removed after it finishes) and installed and there's a list of them in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Dell/System Software/ .

But if I rerun System Software, it will keep downloading and installing the same updates.

So is it being in that registry key mean they were correctly installed (it seems not as even your program will still try to install them) or is there another way to tell if they were correctly installed ?

I looked for the different KB's in the registry and they appear so I guess it was but I would like System Software to be more clear about what was installed or not.

Of course I think it would make even more sense to have that functionnality of installing hotfixes in Client System Update.

jonathanv81,

Thanks for your post.

The registry key that you are looking at is the best place to verify the installation.

I will pass along your feedback to the DSS team.
