Can't Wake-on-LAN any OptiPlex 790s

We have multiple OptiPlex 790s in our environment. They all have the Intel 82579LM Gigabit NIC installed. When these machines are powered off, the 'Good Connection' light on the NIC does not light up, and I cannot wake the machines via WOL.

Here is what I have done on all machines:

  • Enabled Wake-on-LAN in the BIOS
  • Tried every BIOS revision from A05 to A11 (confirming that WOL is set to Enabled after each update)
  • Installed the latest NIC drivers (both from the Dell site and the OEM drivers from Intel's site)
  • With version 11.15.16.0 of the Intel OEM NIC driver installed, enabled 'Wake on Magic Packet', 'Wake on Magic Packet from power off state', 'Wake on Link', and 'Wake on Pattern Match' in the Power Management tab.
All other OptiPlex models in our environment wake up just fine (including machines in the same subnet and physical location as these 790s). Has anyone run into this or found a solution? Thanks.

If deep sleep mode is enable WOL will not work. Must Disable Deep Sleep in BIOS if you want to use WOL

I have just started to work on this issue as well and was getting ready to do what you have stated. Looks like I am going to start with a support ticket to see what the support techs have as an answer.

Dillari864, your suggestion worked. I changed that setting and WOL works properly now. Thanks so much for your help!

Updated bios to A11 and no Wake On Lan.

I did restore to defaults and Disabled Deep Sleep,

but cannot wake up the PC with Remote Desktop.

With previously bios A10 no problem

Make sure to turn off "Intel Speed Step technology"  in the BIOS
