Cab file creation software and cab file updates

I like the idea of the cab files that are already pre-made on the Dell Enterprise website. Are those ever updated? And how? I am in a city organization of 10,000+ computers and support about 60 different Dell models some of which are 10 years old (unfeasible to upgrade hw to newest models as there is too much bureaucratic red-tape and high cost$).

I want to know about the cab updates because it would be really helpful when we launch Win7 to all the desktops (I am well aware of the restrictions of old Dell computers and minimum requirements for Win7, that is not the question at hand). My question is how do I get updated cab files and/or how can I make cab files for the models that I support here? I would be fine if I could just create my own. What software would I need to create cab files from the drivers that are on the Dell support website?

The Cab files are updated on the following schedule for currently shipping systems and 2 cycles back - http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/3588.driver-cab-release-schedule.aspx  The point at which the cabs are no longer updated usually coincides with the end-of-life for the system and driver updates after that point are rare.

The process for creating clean cab files is not a simple one, which is why most customers leverage the Dell provided cab files instead of trying to build them on their own.

I can attest to Warren's statement on this.  I've built my own in the past and to really get them trimmed down and vetted out is quite tedious.  Save yourself the trouble and start with the driver packs that Dell has provided.

If you find any individual drivers that are out of date that you feel needs updated, then replace just that one driver.
