Adding HDD to Precision T5600
Hola -
In their wisdom, our IT dept spec'd our dozen new T5600s with SCSI PERC drives, of a whopping 165GB capacity. All this in their quest for "security" - don't ask!
Anyway, I have a user who needs a piece of software that installs at around 90GB and it almost completely consumed the available space on C:. I bought a 500GB SATA drive to install onto which I am going to reload the offending application.
I opened the case, found the cables from the motherboard's HDD0 and HDD1 ports, and plugged one into the drive, as well as locating the correct power connector and attaching that to the new drive as well.
The drive doesn't appear in Win7 nor can I find it being recognized in the BIOS.
What am I missing here (besides my 500GB drive!)?
TIA

And the solution is......
To move the spare cable from one of the HDD1/0 connectors over to SATA1 (assuming you have only one optical drive - if not, then you're out of luck) and attach that to the SATA drive.
