Metering in ECS 3.2

Hi @all,

we have a problem at a customer site, which must be solved asap.

In ECS3.1 we measured "Used Data", "System Metadata" and "Geo Data" for chargeback. These numbers were found in chunk details.

After the the upgrade to ECS3.2 these numbers were gone and we can't find the numbers for three values above. And the number for "Used capacity" is now much higher, then with ECS3.1 and we can't see which value were summed up for "Used capacity".

Where can we find the three necessary information for chargeback?

Which values are behind "namespace total size" under "Metering"?

Kind regards

Matthias

Hi,

the customer told me the wrong ECS Version. The upgrade was done from ECS3.0 HF2 to ECS 3.1 HF3.

Just for clarification, you're looking at "Used Capacity" under "Capacity Utilization"?  And the numbers you saw on v3.0 HF2 were lower than what you see on 3.1 HF3?

If you haven't already, I recommend opening an SR to investigate why there is such a big difference.  ECS uses an asynchronous metering process and my first guess is that metering was lagged quite a bit before the upgrade and after the upgrade it initiated a rescan, which "corrected" the values.  However, this is just a guess and you should investigate to verify.

Hi Stu,

the numbers for "User Data" do not look correct. We had an increase of about 3TB for "User Data" and a correlating increase in "Online Used Capacity" per month. For "Online Used capacity" we had still the same increase, but the "User Data" did a jump of 50TB in one VDC and 27TB in the other VDC.

We will open a SR to investigate further!

Can you tell me which numbers are summed up under "namespace" in metering?

Is this "Protection Overhead + User Data + System Meta Data"?

Kind regards

Matthias

Matthias,

Under "namespace," all metering info should be User Data only.  So you are saying that the Used Capacity seems to be trending as it was, but metering data has jumped considerably?  Can you identify any particular namespaces that have jumped or is it all of them?

Hi Stu,

here are the numbers that were collected via SRM. As you can see, April and May are missing, but the increase of "Online used capacity" and "Sum of buckets" were as expected. Only the "User Data" value increased much more than expected after the upgrade to ECS 3.1 HF3.

In the VDC "vdc_he_rz2" we summed up "Protection Overhead" + "User Data" + "Meta Data" = 113TB.

The sum of all namespaces is also 113TB. Fortuity?

Well, you have to be careful with what you're comparing here.  I'm not sure how SRM collects the above data, but if a bucket is replicated between sites, it would theoretically show up on both of these reports.

I would continue through the SR process and hopefully support can straighten this all out.
