Failure scenarios

In the Overview and Architecture Guide (2016), it presents failure tolerance. It mentions specific small configurations, such as 4 or 8 nodes in a VDC. This is helpful, but does the failure tolerance increase or remain the same with multiple racks? For example, for 8 nodes, assuming a one-by-one failure and enough space, you can have a loss of 5 nodes (EC stops). Does that mean that ANY VDC configuration with 8 nodes or more can handle 5 node failures?  If there are 80 nodes, is there still a 5 node failure tolerance?

Thanks.
