Capacity calculator for BYO hardware + Centera migration question
Hi all,
I am wondering if there is a calculator available for the BYO hardware option with ECS? Some of our customers are running Centeras that need migration so the ECS is the logical target but many of them don't have that many TBs in archives therefore looking for BYO options with Dell servers and lower capacity drives.
Also it's not clear how do we install ECS on commodity and migrate Centera to it, these all documents marked as Internal only, although we've been supporting Centeras for 10+ years and never had issues accessing required documentation. Is there any certification path that would allow a partner to provide ECS build and migrate services? I am afraid that if for all these activities we need to engage EMC PS, costs might go through the roof and customers may look elsewhere to migrate their Centeras.

Hi Mikhail,
There are no calculators available for ECS SD. If you are interested in the option, you will need to reach out to your local/regional SDS SE. They can assist you with the requirements for SD and the information regarding it.
If a partner has built an application for migration of data to/from ECS, they can ask to have it certified via the ISV programme: http://vr.solarch.lab.emc.com/
Migrations from Centera to ECS is reasonably well documented and is a standardised package (PS-BAS-MIG).
There are no differences to the package, when the target ECS is a software only system.
Lastly, we have a large amount of successful migrations from Centera to ECS using our PS; without costs going through any roofs. Please speak with your SDS SE if you need help building an offer around this.
