WD19TB Dock Fan Issues After 04/2026 Firmware Update
My WD19TB firmware was updated on Monday via SupportAssist to the version that was released on Sunday (4/19/26, version 01.01.01.01.01.01.11.01). It has worked without issue since I bought it, but right after the update the fan would suddenly ramp up to full speed (very audible and loud considering its size) and an alert would come up right away on my screen saying that the dock fan has failed. I have to assume that the issue directly relates to the firmware update. Every time it has happened I would power it down, unplug, hold the power button to drain the energy, and try again. Not long after it would happen again. Today I let it go with the fan ramped up and eventually it went back down to normal. I'm out of warranty at this point (bought "new" from Amazon 4 months ago but the the service tag shows it as shipped/warranty activated 5 years ago. rrrgh....), so Dell doesn't give me a way to contact via chat/email about this. I downloaded the firmware update utility, but it shows I already have this current (new) version that was released 4 days ago.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a way to roll back the firmware update? Is there another way to bring this to Dell's attention other than asking about it here?
(Also, why isn't there a forum area for accessories like a docking station? Had to post this under Laptops. I hope it gets attention where it's at.)

Are you saying that you manually downloaded/saved to the Windows desktop the firmware update 01.01.02.01, 01.01.13.01 4/23/26.
Then when you tried to install it, it would not allow you?

@DELL-ChrisM2 no. I downloaded and ran the update utility just to confirm what firmware version it was on and the version to be installed matched the already installed version. I didn't make an attempt to complete the installation with the same version.

I am back in the office this morning. The fan issue happend not long after I got here. I just ran the update utility, it showed the current version and new version as the same. I hit the button to update and the status shows green checkmarks for all of the entries, so we'll see how it goes.

I had no issues throught the day Monday after the update. Teleworked yesterday. Back in the office again today and the fan fired up and alert popped up within 20 mins of starting my day today. So, the firmware reflash did not resolve the issue.

Well I will suggest you to:
Dell usually replaces these pretty quickly because internal fan faults aren’t user-repairable.

@GauravSyst As I mentioned in the original post, I bought it as "new" from Amazon and it appeared to be when I received it, but the service tag lookup suggests it was originally shipped in 2021 and the warranty expired in 2024. Dell won't even let me email or chat with support about it since the warranty is expired. That's why I'm posting here.

@funkhouse9 That’s frustrating, especially since the issue appeared immediately after the firmware update. You could still try contacting Dell via social support channels or request a manual firmware rollback utility from community moderators. Also consider reaching out to the Amazon seller regarding the incorrect “new” product listing.
