Windows file search and DX

I hope that someone can help answer this question. Firstly, I'm not a DX admin, but I manage the team of sysadmins and none of them have answered this...

We have windows 2003 file systems shared out to XP clients, and backed off to DX for archiving based on modified date. All of this functions ok, but when the user does a filename search in Windows Explorer, any file which is shortcut does not appear . I assume that this is because they are no longer "files" but some other file type that search doesn't recognise. Is that the case? Is there any configuration that would allow the files to be searched for? Are there any experiences to be shared and avoided?

Thanks for any help.
Neil

This issue has to do with Windows XP clients and an issue with Windows Explorer. There is a switch in Windows Search: More / Search tape backup. This is available from the Advanced menu on the search Window and is essential when searching DX files.

Thanks coreylow. I tested this out today and you're absolutely right. Now I need to get my desktop admins to create a policy that sets that as a default for 7000 clients and no-one will be any the wiser :) . I found that there is a registry setting for SearchSlowFiles which will enable that as the default.

Thanks again.
Neil.
