Move/Replace "Extended Drive"

Hi there,

we want to resize an extended partition on a server running DX 6.1 (with patch 03 Fsm610040) which hosts the EmailXtender Container Files.

It would be very nice if the same drive letter could be used again...

- Because of the DxSpy Filter Driver, one cannot just copy everything around.
- Might the tool Dx Server-to-Server Migration utility help here too?
- What are the according steps to achieve this?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Jochen.

DX Migration utility only works server to server.

We used to use a utility call DxDriveDump to do this on DX 2000.
This tool allows you to create a dump of the extended drive for restoration to a new drive. Contact support and see if there is an updated version of dxdrivedump.exe.
Simply dump the drive with the appropriate switches to create the dump file, then run it again to restore to the new drive.
Once the data is restored simply remove the drive letter on the existing extended drive and assign that letter to the new drive. Once you reboot DX may ask you to allocate the new drive because it will have a different volume id.

If the utility is not available you can use a backup tool. There's a writeup on this here:

Whichever approach you take be sure to freeze the EX system before you start. Remove the connection mailbox and close all open containers or use the exsuspend to to stop processing email.
Hope this helps.
