move rule config- wildcard in folder name?
Hello All,
I need to archive only certain subfolders on an extended drive to centera, however due to the large number of folders it would be easier to use a wildcard in the folder name. However I don't see a way to do that within the DX adminstrator GUI. Does any one know of a way to create a move rule that will use a wildcard in the folder name?
note: On a test system, I was able to modify the registry entry for a move rule to use a wildcard and it did seem to work across multiple folders, but I'm concerned modifying the registry would cause problems in DX.
thank you.

Can you provide a little more detailed information with regards to the directory structure? I'd like to know what the parent folder is, along with the subfolders beneath it that you'd like to migrate, as well as the number of folders.
For example:
Folder1
--> Subfolder1 (migrate)
--> Subfolder2 (do not migrate)
--> Subfolder3 (migrate)
etc...
I don't need the exact configuration, but an example configuration would help in addressing your question.
With regards to the registry modification, I would avoid doing that, as it can have unforseen problems.
Thanks,
-Mike

Sorry for the late reply - I was out yesterday.
Unfortunately, there's no way to do this through the DiskXtender GUI. Even changing it through the registry will prove to be problematic, as you will no longer be able to modify that move rule once you've added the "*" to the Folder Specification.
I just tested this and if you try modifying the Move Rule after making the registry modification, you'll get an error code 123 which is a windows error for:
"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
This will happen if you try to modify anything about the Move Rule (file size, file age, attributes, settings, etc...) after making the change to add the "*" to the folder specification in the registry.
You can always start a Service Request for DiskXtender and ask for an RFE (Request For Enhancement) be added to DiskXtender, so that future versions of the product have this capability.
Sorry, I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, and doesn't resolve your immediate need with regards to your proposed DiskXtender configuration.

Thank you for your help. I went ahead and submitted the RFE.
