Migrating to a new Centera

Hi,

My customer has an old EmailXtender 4.81/DiskXtender system 6.2, the archive files are on the DX's extended drive.

We have to move those data to a new Centera system.

I set the EX/DX to store new content to the new Centera from 1st of July. I copied the files from the old Centera to the new one, using the

restore feature in Centera.

How is it possible to switch to the new Centera on DX side.

My guess is, to stop DX, and in the registry change the PhysicalLocation (HKLM/Software/emc/DiskXtender/XMS/Media/Media000x) parameter to the new one, then start DX. It seems the PhysicalLocation contains the Centera connection string.

What do you think?

Hello Krisztian -

At this point, it looks like you have the legacy data moved to the new Centera via Centera restore, but you are having trouble pointing the DX to the new pool? Is that correct?

We perform plenty of DiskXtender replacements and migrations with our Storfirst product (certified by EMC in their Select program), which could be a potential option to upgrade the DiskXtender environment and get this emailXtender footprint fully functional on the new Centera. Please let me know if I am understanding your situation correctly.

Thanks!

Hi Derick,

you understand the situation correctly, this is the case. New data redirected to the new Centera more than 2 months ago (1st of June), legacy data "restored" to the new Centera.

My question is regarding the switchover mechanism. I have two plans.

1. Because the old Centera will be switched off, simply add the old Centera access node hostnames as an alias to the new Centera. Then the two media services remain in DX, but they are pointing to the same physical hardware (New Centera).

2. On the Dx server, change the value of the registry key PhysicalLocation from old Centera to new Centera. Then the media service pointing to old Centera is not necessary.

Dear All,

yesterday, I migrated DX to use the same Centera using the method 1. mentioned above.

I had to do the following steps.

1. Stopped EX and DX.

2. Did a last (partial) restore from old Centera to new.

3. Changed the DNS, all the old hostnames used in DX service, pointed to the new Centera system.

4. I had to change the connection string in the registry, because, the secret was different on the two Centera.

5. Started DX and checked the functions, then started EX.

I clearly visilble in the logs that DX connects to the same Centera twice, because of the two Media services.

Now I am working on to remove the old media service. It seems I have to modify two registry settings on each media. The PhysicalLocation (containing the connection string) and the ServiceID (containing the ID of the media service).
