License server

Hi,

Does anyone know how the Diskextender license server calculates how much of your storage is being used?

We have a 4TB diskextender license for use with our Centeras. At the moment we have moved 1.7TB of data to the Centeras but the license server states that we have only used 1TB of our available license

I don't understand the discrepancy.

Thanks.

Apparently DiskXtender actually keeps track of migrated files to calculate the capacity. I've seen this with NAS media wherein files were migrated to the NAS, but later deleted off the NAS. Each piece of NAS media keeps track of the number of files and bytes that were migrated to it, not what is actually being used. This is what appears to be used for the calculation. On the NAS media, you can go to Properties, then Location. This will show you the files and bytes that were moved to this piece of media.
This is creating a real problem for me, since I'm only able to use about 2/3 of the 1TB license I have.

With help from EMC support it seems that the license server only increments the usage when an entire terabyte of capacity has been used on the Centera. This means that while we had 1.7TB of data being managed by Diskextender the license server only showed 1TB of our licensed capacity as being used. Once we shifted a bit more data onto the Centera so that over 2TB of data was being managed by Diskextender the license server ticked over to showing 2TB of our license being used. A bit confusing.
