DX: Move Centera data to new pool
Hi there,
I have an EmailXtender system with DiskXtender, that saves the e-mail data in containers to an Centera pool. And yes, there is a rentention on the files by EmailXtender.
- A client asked me, if we can move the data from a Centera pool A to a Centera pool B. I guess, that should be possible with DiskXtender: What would be the required steps?
- When data is moved to the new Centera volume, I assume the retention is somehow retained. Is there a way to change the retention somehow? Let's say the retention should be changed from 10 to 1 year, can this information be cleared or overwritten?
I know that a centera pool can have a retention time. Can this be configured that the pool retention is used only and the application retention is neglected?!
Thanks for your input. Kind regards,
Jochen

haven't told us which version Centera is running - Basic, Governance Edition, Compliance Edition Plus...
If its Basic, that means that files are protected with retention only on the file system level, and not on Centera (i have seen reference in old DX admin guide for version 6.1, see side 4-16 - should be checked for the Version you use) - and that means we're in luck
Admittedly, this is rather "top of my head, Friday afternoon" solution :)) - proper steps should be checked and possibly tested - but i would do something like - Compact Media Task on all media - Deallocate and Delete Media (if possible!) - deconfigure Media Service for existing Centera Pool - configure new Centera Pool (+ Pea file et al) - configure Retention Classes on Centera Pool (be careful, cannot be undone) - configure new Media Service for DX with new PEA file - configure registry for EX/DX for Media Group (cannot remember where Retention Class is set) - restart all of the Services, both DX first, EX second, and migrate data again to Centera...
Since Centera is in Basic mode - Garbage collection should kick in and delete content from the old pool, and our data is now in new pool.
hope this view helped - but in this situation i would test everything properly before going productive with any procedure.
best regards,
Mladen
