DiskXtender and Avamar
The DX 6.4 for Windows Best Practices Guide recommends NOT doing meta-data exports and instead recommends using an EA-aware backup solution. Avamar is EA-aware, but the "Interoperability of DiskXtender and Avamar" technical notes say that when using Avamar, you shouldn't have more than 8 million files on all extended drives. We have more than 8 million files and have historically relied on meta-data exports for disaster recovery. I've not been comfortable with that due to the amount of time it takes to restore that meta-data, but haven't found a better solution. Does anyone have suggestions?
