Date Accessed - and how to ensure that DX still archives files
I am doing a proof of concept for indexing DiskXtender files using SharePoint search. It is working well using 'direct read' which ensures that the files are not fetched from Centera in the background.
The only problem I'm having is that the 'Date Accessed' field gets reset on each indexed file not already archived. And since DX is configured to archive files based on the Date Accessed, if we index regularly, new files will never be archived...
Can we use a different field as the criteria for archiving? Can we prevent the date accessed from changing? I'm hoping I don't have to write a custom protocol handler to go in and reset the date accessed after each file is indexed...

I believe the only supported indexing module is DX Search Module. The reason is most indexing services will need to read the whole file when performing indexing.
Even if you enabled direct read on these files, when indexing kicks in, the file will need to be accessed fully
I suggest that you contact your EMC Account Manager to submit a SVC qualifier for this environment.
