Dell XPS 410 hang at startup

I have a new XPS 410 About 2 out of 5 times that I start the machine, none of the error code lights on the front come on or any hard drive activity... zilch. A fan, either the CPU or case fan begins to rev up like a little jet ehgine. Can rev pretty high before I get nervous and shut down. If I immediately hold the power button for a few seconds, allow the machine to shut down and restart, it seems to go okay. Whenever I start it now, I look to see if the numbers on the front blink. If they don't I'm back to restarting.Memory is fine and I have not done any upgrades to the machine. Apprecitate any help.

Is the fan spinning up for longer than a second or two? I can't say first hand for the XPS 410, but my XPS 720 does spin the fans up to full speed on boot but only briefly.

It's a long shot, but do you have any USB memory sticks or iPod (or other similar device) hooked into the computer on boot?

When it doesn't seem to boot, do you even get a BIOS screen?

Hi, Absolutely nothing comes up on the screen. In fat the monitor shows no video signal.
There was new bios update today, I hope that may help. I didn't mention that I am running memory @ 800Mhz, but the manual says that is one of the ones the machine will handle. It's good Kingston memory and at system  setup memory is recognized. Beats me, I have had about 8 Dells including laptops, never had this happen before. Thank you for responding.
