Bad video card and nonworking keyboard

The video card is an nVIDIA GeForce MX4000. Is this an addition to the video card that is supposed to be working?

I have never had so much difficulty finding out how to fix something. I really could use the help, because I have wasted so much time.

I understood it as turning on and having blank screen and no keyboard response.  Oh well, glad I stated I was not an expert, just trying to give the man something to try.

I am no expert, did you try booting in safe mode?

HE SAID IT WON'T TURN ON.

Take out the MX4000 and see if it boots and look at the status lights on back.

Raven, yes you are correct. I cannot get anything on my screen at all with or without new card. You are the expert; you understand the regular guy.

So you put this new video card in and briefly had something on the screen at one time and it went blank......Sounds like you did not install any new drivers.....Sounds like you attempted to re-install your old card and give it a try with same results?  I wonder if you have a seperate monitor to try?  Seems odd to loose it with both cards (one that was previously working and you never got to the point to install new drivers).  I will dig real deep and say check to make sure you have power to the monitor?  As I said, I am no expert on the technical issues but maybe something simple is amiss here.:)  If anyone else has any suggestions out there please jump in! Are you seeing the system attempt to boot or anything going on?  If nothing is attempting to go I would look at the power supply?

I believe the old video card went out, as I had a black screen on boot or it died the time before and I just did not pay much attention to the sequence of events. Anyway, I have not been able to get anything but a black screen and my keyboard does not function. I found this on the board...http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=33887... I am hoping this will solve my problem, but I have to download it from another computer to a floppy.

Do you think this will solve my problem?

I have an old l800r manual that has the light codes in it. y=yellow/orange,g=green,o=off

oooo=power up default
yyyy=system recieving power, bios not booting.
yyyg=recovery mode from bios failure
yygy=CPU failed bios test.
yygg=memory failed to sized or enabled
ygyy=PCI bus failure
ygyg=Video card did not initialize
yggy= IDE bus failure
yggg= USB device failure
gggy= other failure
gggg= system started , bios gave control to OS

These codes are from light A-D
