What could be the operational impact of replacing the Storage Processor Enclosure (SPE) of a VNX 5800 Unified Storage ?
Dear EMC VNX SME's,
One of our VNX 5800 SPs (Storage Processor) became unresponsive & unmanaged recently. A support case has been logged with Dell-EMC Support for this & they attempted a SP replacement yesterday. Unfortunately, the activity failed as the new SP module wont fit in perfectly (may be due to some hardware compatibility) & even the Field CE's weren't really confident regarding applying pressure as it could get the hardware or the enclosure damaged.
Instead, they have suggested us to get the entire SPE (storage processor enclosure) replaced. This would necessarily involve powering down both the SPs & hence the total infrastructure. Thereafter, they'll necessarily replace both the working & the faulted SP and finally the enclosure that holds these 2 SPs.
Request your inputs regarding what could be the operational impact of this activity in an infrastructure environment where ESX "Boot from SAN" is configured with this VNX. Also, what are the precautions/pre-requisites necessary before planning this huge task ?
Thanks & Regards,
Ratnadeep C
