Urgent Information required Dell/EMC CX300
I was just given a new Dell/EMC CX300i and I have a few questions about it that I can't seem to find answers for? All I have is the DAE2 nothing else. Do I require anything else besides cables to make this work? I would think that I need some sort of controller unit. Any information is very much appreciated. Would this be considered a SAN or NAS? By the looks of things this is a DAS for use by one host. Thanks ALL!

Actually, the Clariion range also offers NAS units; e.g. the NS-series.
These use the same DAE2's as the CX-series, the NS-series can be (could be) purchased as a Gateway (NS-x00G) or as a standalone. The gateway uses a CX-array and connects to it via the CX-FE connections (fibre). The standalone uses datamovers instead of the CX-array's storage processors but on the backend uses the same DAE2's as the CX-series.
But a DAE2 has LCCs on the back and is indeed useless without a Disk Processor Enclosure. Whether this DPE is an NS-series or a CX-series.

The CLARiiON range does not offer NAS units. The Celerra (NAS) and CLARiiON are based on the same architecture, but are two different offerings. You can get a Celerra integrated which comes with a CLARiiON, but it does not use data movers instead of the storage processors. The Data Movers are only for NAS functions, and run the DART operating system. The Storage Processors run FLARE code, which is used for storage functions.
The NS gateways require a full CLARiiON or DMX for storage, or a combination of up to four storage arrays on the back end. The integrated Celerras also require a full CLARiiON, including the service processors, but are directly cabled directly using copper or fiber FC cables. None of them use data movers in place of storage processors.
In the older integrated units, prior to NAS 5.5.30, the only way to manage the CLARiiON's service processors was to use the Celerra Manager or NaviCLI/NaviSecCLI (or plug into the private LAN and use the off array manager.) With the addition of the ProxyARP feature, the CLARiiON service processors can be assigned public IP addresses, and managed using Navisphere Manager.
DPE's are only for CLARiiON service processors. NS encolsures are only for NAS data movers or Blades. Both are based on the same hardware, which reduces manufacturing costs, but are not interchangeable. The NS Enclosure has the MAC and WWN seeds integrated, for example, so when replacing an NS Blade or XBlade, you don't have to re-zone. Also, the LCC cards are housed only in the DPE.
DPE and/or DAE = SAN
Data Mover or XBlade = NAS
The NAS is basically just another host that attaches to a CLARiiON or DMX, integrated or not.
