Storage
Hi,
I work for a small hosting company and were currently looking at a SAN solution for storage. We have approximately 42 Dell servers, ranging from the PE1650's to the newer PE1950... there are also a couple of PE2650's in there.
We want to run all servers from the SAN on FC, can anyone recommend a storage unit/solution that would be ideal for 42 hosting servers which handle, web services, email and light database transactions?
The solution should be scalable, redundant and performance is essential.
Many thanks in advance,

Consider looking at a Dell|EMC CX4-120. This unit supports FC as well as iSCSI connections. This could come in handy if you ever need to (temporarily) connect a server 'on the cheap'.
The CX4-120 can support from 5 to 120 harddrives (the first 5 drives in the first enclosure do lose about 62GB for the OS of the array, so don't expect too much in space from those first 5 drives). It uses enclosures that can hold up to 15 drives. Each enclosure can either use FC drives (10k or 15k rpm) or SATA2 drives; you can't mix drive types in a single enclosure.
If you end up needing to grow beyond 120 drives you can then upgrade the array to a CX4-240, CX4-480 or CX4-960 that can handle 240, 480 or 960 drives respectively.
Note: 3rd post attempt.
