scv2020 space recovery

Hi All,

I have been trying to recover free space on my scv2020 for the last few days without success. I have deleted a few VMs, totaling about 1.5TB. I then ran unmap on the volume, checked the log and can see it finished. Storage manager shows the with 1.42TB free but still shows only 270GB free on the array. I have snapshots disabled on the scv2020 so I have no idea why it is not giving back.

What am I doing wrong here?

What is your current version of SCOS?  Have you followed the steps listed on page 174 of this guide? https://dell.to/2vPGD6Z

Have you expired all snapshots?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

 

Yes, all snapshots have been expired.

I have space recovery enabled globally. One thing I don't have is the option to run space recovery manually on the volume if I right click it. Am I missing something on the ESX host?

So what was the fix?

does this need Dell support to cure?

if not, what needs to be done?

Hello Richard,

Here are the recommended steps for space recovery.

1.       Empty the recycle bin.

2.       Use SCSI UNMAP features or Dell Storage Manager Server Agent to find and recover unused disk space.

3.       Reduce the retention of snapshots on the system

4.       Delete and empty from recycle bin any test volumes

5.       Move volumes from the identified disk folder to another disk folder with more space.

6.       Move volumes off the Storage Center

If the above actions have already been performed or not possible and the system is still low on space, then contact technical support for additional guidance
