SC5020 and allocating spare disk
Might seem an odd question,
We have a (new) SC5020 and I am just starting to get to grips with it. My only experience until now has been with the older MD3200 units. The configuration of the SC5020 was not done by me, so I am inheriting what has been built so far.
We have 2 x disk groups. Each group has 1 x spare disk allocated. I have noticed that in disk group #1 the spare disk is number 8 of 10. In disk group #2 the spare is number 3 of 10. This sets my OCD antennae quivering.
Question: is there any way to change this? (I cannot see any option in Storage Manager to do it). Is allocation of the spare disk(s) an option when setting up, or is this auto-allocated by the SC5020 and therefore not configurable by a human?

Hello FrostyAtCBM,
Here is a link to the administrator guide & if you look on page 61 it explains how spare drives are configured. http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_administrator-guide_en-us.pdf
There is not a way to assign a disk # for the spare drives based on the administrator guide.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for confirming,
That was the conclusion I had reached also, after reading that section, but I was kind of hoping that there was a workaround somewhere (via command line, or whatever).
Cheers,

The spares are set automatically by the system.
