S5000PSL (ROMB) and the HP 24 Bay SAS expander card

No idea where to post this...
BLUF: Will the PERC H200 see drives attached to a HP 24 Bay SAS expander card (PN: 468406-B21)?
Will the motherboard work with a HP SA-P410 or SA-P410i Controller (known to work with the expander)?
Can a breakout cable be used as a "reverse" breakout cable to connect the expander card to the ROMB?

Forgive the stupid questions I've never build a physical raid with anything but the ROMB for desktops.
Backstory: As a pet project I've been putting together some "old" stuff. I currently have the following up and running:

S5000PSL (ROMB) - no chassis and none of the accessories from the original purchase.
Dual Xeon L5410 (SLAP4)
24GB RAM
ATI HD5750
600 watt desktop PSU
NO CASE
Running Windows 7 (64 bit)

In addition I have:
about 30 HDDs
HP 24 Bay SAS Expander Card (PN: 468406-B21) - including 4 mini sas cables
6 breakout cables

I've been given most of the answers.

Hello Longbowgun,

With a PERC card, they are designed to work in Dell servers. Since you are using a non-dell motherboard I am sure that the PERC card will not work.  Also, a PERC H200 card in most cases can’t see any storage that isn’t Dell.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

That's an important piece of info I did not have. Thanks!

I have seen this:
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/s5000psl_thol_29.pdf
Since I'm running Win 7 I (Server 2008 is at its "core" - please correct me I'm wrong here) I would imagine devices compatible with 2008 will probably work.

But, I'm left to wonder if my extender card will work (even though it's not on the list) or if extenders are also controller specific.

Do you know If the S5000PSL is in any "off the shelf" servers? From what I can see it's a "standalone".  It might help me figure out what hardware to look for.

Hello Longbowgun,

Yes, the devices should work without an issue running windows 2008 core.  I am not sure if that motherboard will work with any off the shelf server or not.  Also, I am not sure about your extenders either as you will need to check the HCL (Hardware Compatible List) for the extenders if they have an HCL.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
