Problem with MD3200 Controller

Hi all,

We have a big problem. We power off a PowerVault MD3200 with dual controller (6 Gbps SAS HBA controllers - Dell Part# : 342-0910) for three week. Change the location, remounting it, reconnected to the same server (Dell 710) in the same manner but although the power vault powered on (power led in front view is green) and power led on the controller  is green too and  lan led is off.

We can't use Storage Manager software because the MGMT port is off .

Seem that both controller are in off mode.

All the disk have led off.

Who can help us?

Thanks

Stefano

Hello Stefano,

What I would try first if you haven’t already is to reseat the controllers, power supplies, & drives to see if they just wiggled lose.  Also when you powered off the MD3200 did you leave it in the rack or did you remove it from the rack & let it sit on the floor?  Also if you power on the MD3200 while not connected to your server is there any change or no?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

thank for your attention..

We already try to reseat all parts of the storage, wothout obtain any changes.

When we powerd off the  MD3200 we transfer it to another location (another city) and leave it two weeks without power on it.

Finally we also powered on MD3200 while not connected to our server ...

It's very strange, I can't understand why..

Hello Stefano,

Ok so if you just have the power supplies & controllers connected & back the HDD out about half way out of there slots do you get the MD3200 to power on & get the controllers to show that they are booting up?  If so then can you connect the serial cable to the controllers so that you can capture the boot up so that we can see what is going on.  Here is how to do the serial capture just in case you need it.

1. Startup a terminal emulation program like putty, teraterm, minicom or hyperterminal using these terminal settings (115200-8-n-1).

2. Start the capture text in your Terminal emulation.

3. Pull the controller that you are connected to out for about 30 seconds and then insert it & you should start to see the text of the controller booting up

4. Wait for the message to start repeating & once it is repeating then you can stop the connection & text capture.

5. Will need to repeat for second controller as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

thanks for the information, but I don't have the right cable (ps2 to db9), do you know the correct pinout of ps2 connector?

I saw some documents on internet but so different.

Thanks a lot.

Stefano

Hi Sam,

I found this topic (en.community.dell.com/.../19225592) where someone suggest pin-out.

But cable not work ...

Do you know another pin-out?

Thanks

Stefano
