MPIO error - Dell PE 610 server with MD3200i storage
I am trying to configure MPIO round robin on our system but get an error that says Incorrect Parameter and then it remains at Least queue depth.
On this server we have two IP addresses.
Server MD Storage
Nic 1 192.168.130.10 192.168.130.101
Nic 2 192.168.130.11 192.168.130.102
I can see both target ips when I run the iSCSI initiator but just cant set it to round robin for some reason. When I click devices then MPIO and try to add the second ip address I get the error of "incorrect parameter"
Does anyone have an idea or can point me in the right direction. I have tried following the MS instructions to no avail.
thanks
Marc

Hello MLarouche,
Here is a link to our deployment guide & if you look on page 34 & 49 it explains how to setup your iSCSI using ms iSCSI initiator. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3200i_Deployment%20Guide_en-us.pdf
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam
I did follow this guide to connect and configure the iSCSI ports and host server. I used the Dell software to do all of this setup and configuration. It is defaulted to Least Path Queue in an active passive type of connection.
Ip 192.168.130.10 connects to 192.168.130.101 on the MD3200i and
ip 192.168.130.11 connects to 192.168.130.102 on the MD3200i
I am able to see that these targets are there in the Iscsi Initiator gui but under the general tab if you click Devices then click MPIO you can change the type of connection you want, round robin, least path queue etc.
Every time I try to change it I get an Incorrect Paramter error, just cant seem to figure out why.

Are you trying to use OS native MPIO, or did you install the MDSM host software on the host that's trying to connect?
Only VMware ESXi 5.x is supported with native MPIO; even linux isn't supported with (pure) native MPIO. You have to install the MD-specific host software at least to have proper multipathing with this unit.

I installed the MDSM host software but was using the iscsi initator to change it to round robin. Sounds like I cant use this native tool but have to use the MDSM to configure the iscsi connections to the MD3200i, correct?
If so is one still able to set to round robin via the MDSM ( maybe that is a stupid question) but not sure I recall seeing that anywhere in the host software that comes with the Dell MD3200 unit.
thanks
