MD3200i and R710 servers

Hi this is my first post here and a cry for help!

We have just purchased 3 R710 servers and a MD3200i San

I have two servers in the same rack as the SAN and the other server is located in a separate building on the same site.  So far I have connected two NIC ports from each server in the rack to alternative controllers in the SAN and one port from each controller to a network switch.  I really don't know if I am doing things right and need some help and/or documentation this is my first SAN connection.

All 3 servers will be running Hyper V, if this makes any differance.

Edie209,

Here is a link to the deployment guide for the MD3200i SAN. I would recommend reviewing this info as it goes over the cabling and everything else when it comes to configuring this unit.

It is also best if you have a windows system on the network so you can install the management software on it. It is called MDSM or Modular Disk Storage Manager. Once everything is physically connected that software will allow you to configure the VD and manage the array. Please let me know if you have any further questions and I would be happy to help you.

Don't run iSCSI from one building to the other building. If the building with the SAN and 2 servers has issues, the SAN will have these same issues simultaneously, so doing a 3rd (cluster) node in another building just adds latency.

If the 3rd host is going to have data replicated from the cluster in the primary building using internal storage (using some software solution), you can ignore this previous statement.
