MD3200 - Replacing Failed Disk
Good Morning,
I have one disk in a failed status that I need to replace. My new HDD arrives today and I want to pop it in. A few questions I am hoping you canal help me out with.
1. It has the Green Checkmark, so I know that means it's safe to remove. Correct?
2. Once I place the new drive in, will it rebuild it and then start using it on it's own and leave the Hot Spare alone? or do I need to do something to make this happen?
3. Are there any other details I need to be aware of?

Hello SNCSONIC,
Here is the link to the Owner’s Manual and if you look on page 214 it explains the steps on how to remove a failed drive. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/common/md3200i_md3220i_owner%27s%20manual_en.pdf
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi There,
Yes - I've read that portion regarding physically replacing the HDD, but it doesn't talk about next steps in rebuilding the array. I would assume it would rebuild it on it's own and then make the Hot Spare and Hot Spare again, but I am not 100% sure. The disk is in "REPLACED" status, but if I navigate to the Drive Group, it looks like it may be rebuilding. Is that correct?

Hello SNCSONIC,
Once the drive is replaced then the copy back process will start. Once the copy back finishes then your hotspare drive will go back to stand by. You will also see the virtual disk show as optimal once the drive has finished copy back process.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
