Hyper-v CSV and MD3220

Hi all,

I am trying to find information on using a MD3220 and Windows 2012 to create a 4 node Hyper-v cluster. According to the documentation I have seen I should be able to connect 4 nodes, with redundant paths, to the MD3220 and allow all 4 host access to the same LUN.

I plan to have a single RAID6 disk group mapped to all the hosts.

I then plan to configure each host with Hyper-v with the MD3220 LUN presented as a CSV.

Is this configuration valid/supported?? Is there any configuration guidance available for this configuration?

Hello jhodges8,

Yes the configuration that you are trying to setup will be supported as it meets the requirements needed.  What I would do is to add the Lun to one server inside of the group & then add the other servers one at a time.  Once you have all the systems added then you can go setup the cluster.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Is it possible to shrink some of the existing Virtual Disks so that I can create a new virtual disk for use with the Hyper-V cluster?

Do keep in mind that though raid 6 is reliable and a good choice, it is slow for writes. Also avoid raid 6 setups with more than 6 or 7 physical drives for setups where performance plays even a little role.

Multiple smaller raid sets are better for performance than single large sets (except maybe when you deal with raid 10).
