How to setup SNMP-trap in EMC AX4-5F8
Hello all,
Can any help me to setup the SNMP-trap (event notification) into EMC AX4-5F8.
As I see there is only 2 option available to setup event notification by 1. e-mail alert and 2.SNMP-trap.
Also what is .mib file in SNMP-trap?
Regards,
Rajib

If I'm not mistaken, you just specify the IP address of your SNMP server and the array will send alerts that way.
For the MIB files, you'll need to register for a Powerlink account (requires an active warranty on the AX4-5). You can do this at http://powerlink.emc.com.

Hello Rajib,
Here is what you need to do:
1. Make sure that FA_MIB is active:
navicli -h ndu -messner -list
2. Bring up Navisphere GUI.
3. Right-click SP A > Properties > Network > Tick 'Enable/Disable processing of SNMP MIB read requests'. The same to SP B.
4. From Enterprise Storage window, go to Monitors tab > right-click a template to be used > SNMP tab > specify SNMP management host and Community name (which is commonly 'public,' but it depends on your SNMP environment).
Since FLARE Release 19 a MIB seems to be built into FLARE.
If you have powerlink access you can also do a search for the same info as well : http://powerlink.emc.com
Let us know how it goes

Most people with an AX4-5 don't have Navisphere Manager; they have Navisphere Express.
MIB files are like drivers, but for the SNMP management application, so they should be downloadable for integration into the SNMP application.

Thanks for your quick reply, my customer have only EMC AX4-5FX with 16 SAS HDD with 2 SPS and 1 DAE, its have Navisphere Express, I have one .mib file downloaded from emc "clariion.mib". Is this file OK for configuring SNMP trap with Orion monitoring software?
The attach file is a zip file. Please rename it to .zip

Rajib,
The file that you have is correct. EMC states that is the standard mib to work with most monitoring software’s. You might have to make some adjustments to ensure it works as you would like. Not sure if you have access to power link or not but here is EMC states about monitor software’s:
Where can I find the Management Information Base (MIB) file for my CLARiiON storage system?
Product: CLARiiON AX4-5
Product: CLARiiON CX Series
Product: CLARiiON CX3 Series
Product: CLARiiON CX4 Series
Services: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Cannot find the MIB file for a CLARiiON system.
Click this link to download the CLARiiON MIB file.
This file is provided "as is" as a courtesy to EMC customers. Individual SNMP systems vary and EMC cannot guarantee that this file will work with all systems. EMC does NOT support this MIB so customers use it at their own risk. However, it is a good starting point. Changes to the file may be required to compile properly. For more information on the MIB, see the Engineering White Paper Managing CLARiiON with SNMP on Powerlink (http://powerlink.emc.com). The White Paper includes a graphical representation of the CLARiiON SNMP trap object as well as the Fibre Alliance MIB.
Let us know how it goes

Thanks Sam for replying. I have the powerlink access and also downloaded file from that source and I have that document (KB) and also the white paper "Managing CLARiiON with SNMP", but I dont know how to configure this MIB file with customer "Orion" software. Customer want to me configure this SNMP trap. Though I am EMC certified from DELL but I never done this before as SNMP trap option. Please guide me if anyone have done this in a short way.

As Orion is not an SNMP application that EMC has officially added to their 'supported' list. This doesn't mean it won't work; you'll just have to work with Orion's support to figure it out.
