How to configure Dell Storage SCv2000 for maximum capacity.

Hello, we have Dell Storage SCv2000 with 18 (one disk capacity  - 8TB) disks. How to configure storage for maximum capacity? We’ve tried to set “storage profile” to “Maximize Efficiency (Parity RAID)“, but when we filled volume ~80TB (real data size), storage goes to „Emergency mode“ and unmap volumes from server. We calculated, that 18 disks (one of them is spare) in RAID6 capacity should be:

17disks x 7.28TB - 14.56TB(for RAID6)= 109.2TB free space. Why storage stops working on 80TB, showes message (Not enough space on drives), disconnect volumes from server and goes to “Emergency mode”?

P.S How correctly turn off “Emergency mode” and map volumes to server again to delete or move some data?  Now we can still delete one of volume (and lose data) to get back from “Emergency mode”.

Thanks.

1. you should call in to support for assistance. I show you have a valid support contract so they will be able to help you to recover. Call for assistance in your country: 880030097. Have your 6 digit system number, or Service Tag available.
2. From your screen shots I show you are out of Emergency Mode. I show that you have 33.07 TB of Allocated Space in Raid 10-DM, and you are only using 2.77 GB. I suspect that when your first set up your system you had used the Balanced Storage Profile. When you imported your data it used Raid 10-DM since it saw all of the data as new. Because of this it went to Raid 10-DM and over allocated that space. Dell Support should be able to assist you in removing the unused space in Raid 10-DM and allow it to be used in Raid 6-10.

When importing data I always suggest to Force Writes to the Lowest Storage Tier for a Volume using the Import to lowest tier option shown on page 115 of the Dell Storage Manager 2016 R3 Administrator’s Guide.

In the future to monitor space usage I would suggest to follow the steps on page 315 of the Dell Storage Manager 2016 R3 Administrator’s Guide:
For each storage type, the data progression pressure report displays how space is allocated, consumed, and scheduled to move across different RAID types and storage tiers. Use the data progression pressure report to make decisions about the types of disks to add to a Storage Center.
1. Select a Storage Center from the Storage view. (Data Collector connected Storage Manager Client only)
2. Click the Storage tab.
3. In the Storage tab navigation pane, expand Storage Type, then select the individual storage type that you want to examine.
4. Click the Pressure Report subtab to view the data progression pressure report. By default, the most recent data gathered from the Storage Center is displayed.
5. (Optional) To view a previously generated data progression report, select a report from the drop-down menu. Reports are identified by the date and time at which they were generated.

Disk Space Available - Total amount of disk space available on the disks of a Storage Center
Disk Space Allocated - Total amount of disk space allocated on the disks

Disk Allocated - Space reserved for volumes.
Disk Used - From the amount of space allocated, the amount that is in use by volumes.

Volume Allocated - Amount of space reserved for use by volumes after RAID is applied.
Volume Used - Amount of space used by volumes after RAID is applied.
I feel this can give you a better view of what is allocated, used, and available.
