Fibre Channel SAN Direct Attach

I am looking to implement veeam direct san access

we are going to replace the existing backup server with a new Dell server (spec to be defined) probably 730xd

The current SAN is a Dell MD 3660f fibre channel SAN. There is no fibre switches in place here. (2 ESX hosts)

We are looking to make a direct connection between the new backup server located in another area above the SAN and then leverage VEEAM to backup directly from the SAN

Has anyone set this up previously without the SAN switching in place? Is this scenario supported by VEEAM?

We are thinking we could use 2 HBA to cat6 converters to make this happen ....can a server simply be attached to the MD series SAN I guess is my question?

Hello Minty1234,

Yes you can connect your MD3660f direct to your servers. What I would suggest is that in your servers that you have a connection to both controllers in your MD to each server so that if you were to have a controller failure. Here is a link to the Deployment Guide just in case you needed. http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3660f_Deployment%20Guide_en-us.pdf
