Failed hard drive d

I just recently purchased a dell insirion 620 and within two days my d hard drive has failed. I am hoping to find out how to fix it (if possible) without having to do it over the phone. I currently can only get into the manual part to even get to my start page. Any info would be highly appreciated. I am new at this and not sure how to do much of anything, or if it is even possible to fix this problem from the computer its self.

Hello,

What you can do is to boot your laptop up & hit the F12 to boot into utility partition.  Once there choose run diagnostics.  This will take a few minutes if it passes when it scans the hard drive then finish booting into 32bit diagnostics.  Once in there you can run the long hard drive test which takes about 2 hours to see if it gives you an error.  If at any time the hard drive test gets an error make sure you write down that code so if you have to call tech support you can give them that code & it will speed up your support call.  I will tell you that if you get an error code 4 or 7 while running the DST (Drive Short Test) that the drive is bad & will need to be replaced due to a mechanical error.

Let us know how it goes.
