Equallogic PS4210 - minimum number of disks required?
Hi there,
We've just received an EQ PS4210 array along with a number of Type 17 and Type 19 controllers. This is refurbished kit and will be used as hardware spares.
The array has come with 3 x 600GB 10K SAS drives. I've inserted one of the Type 17 controllers and when I attempt to reset the array, the initialisation eventually fails. Message in the console is:
"Initializing. This may take several minutes to complete...................
*** Database is not functional. The setup utility has failed.
Please try again"
I'm inexperienced with Equallogic arrays and as part of my research into this I note some reports that a minumum number of drives is required for initialisation to complete. Can anyone confirm this minimum?
Many thanks

Hello Nealus99,
With EQ systems you have to use EQ drives. If you insert a non-dell EQ drive it will power on for a few seconds and then power off as it didn’t find the correct firmware on the drive.

Hello Nealus99,
A PS4210 needs to be half populated in order to init the system.

Thanks for your reply. So I need to get a few more disks.
The actual array is not required in the long term, only the controllers are. With this in mind, will the array initialise with mixed capacity, non-Dell disks or do we need EQ certified disks?
