Dell sc4000 7K disk allocation

Hi All,

I am administering a SAN comprising of 1 x SC4020 & 2 x SC200 enclosures.

The T3 storage is running low, currently at 99.4% usage on RAID 6-10 Standard.

The 7k disks in the SAN are not fully allocated and have 2.56TB free per disk.

Is it possible to have this unallocated space assigned to the RAID 6-10 Standard?

Many thanks

Hello RichardWilde,

Your T3 should start grabbing your unused space and provide it to your R6-10. When space starts to run low it should automatically allocate free space as needed. I will send you a private message and if you can send me your controller serial# or service tag I can look at your configuration to make sure all is set correctly.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for your controller serial#.  I was able to look at your system through secure console, and I can see that you have 13.6TB of free space that has been allocated to your Tier 3 storage.  You have plenty of free space for tier3 to grow, & will not have your system go into emergency mode.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,T

Thanks for the confirmation re tier3 space.

Would you be able to confirm whether the 40.96TB of non allocated space on the 2 x R6-10 (16 x 2.56TB) is unavailable for usage or not?

My thoughts from what I have read and the info you have given me, suggest that nearly the full capacity of each of the 7K disks would need to have been allocated for availability when initially configured.

Kind regards

Richard
