Dell CERC 2610SA - How do I prompt it to start the rebuild?

I built a Windows Vista Server with an Adaptec 2610SA RAID card in a RAID 5 configuration.  The 6 drives are just data drives and are 250 gig Hitachi drives.   The Vista operating system is on a completely seperate drive.  At some point the array got degraded, I think due to a power failure.  Now when I reboot the server the boot up screen just after the RAID controler boots up says that the array is Rebuilding.  I was glad to see that however the leds on the RAID card dont show any activity.

When I go into the RAID Configuration Utility in the RAID card BIOS the array is shown as Optimal, however the Adaptec software that I have loaded on the server to manage the array says that the array is degraded.  However both the RAID configuration utility and the Adaptec RAID manager software show all the drives as healthy and optimal.

There also doesnt appear to be any way to see what the status of the rebuild is.

Questions:

1.) Is it possible that the individual drives are fine but the array still needs to be rebuilt with out replacing any hardware?  Is it possible to do that?

2.) If none of the drives are bad and the array just needs to be rebuilt how do I prompt it to rebuild?

3.) Once it starts rebuilding how do I see the progress of the rebuild?

4.) I'm assuming that becuase the drive channel LEDs on the RAID card are not active that there is no rebuilding going on.  Is my assumption correct?

I'd suggest to post in the Poweredge HDD/SCSI/RAID section instead of the Dell|EMC (SAN) Storage section.

I'd also recommend to uninstall the Adaptec software and install the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator and use that to look at the hardware. Dell tends to modify the bios on their raid controllers a little (could be as little as disabling a feature to prevent competing with a higher end Dell offering, but could also be more impacting), causing not all original manufacturer's software to work 100% with the Dell version of the hardware.

Thanks, I just posted to the other forum.

Also, I searched around a good bit but couldnt find a version of Dell OpenManager for Vista.  Is there such a thing?  If so can you point me to it?

Don't believe there is. PERC and CERC controllers are mainly for servers, so there's no OpenManage for non-server OSes. You can check the Precision Workstation downloads and look there for raid management software. Some workstations are offered with PERCs and CERCs, so they have their own management utilities.
