CX300 startup

Hi guys,

Recently we bought a CX300 storage with 2 PE2850, each one with a HBA QLA2340, and a FC switch ES4500. The problem at this point is that a don't have drives and software for manage everthing and also some documentacion to setup this hardware with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise.

Can anybody tell me where we can find software and drives?

Regards,

If the system is under warranty, you can register on EMC's Powerlink site (http://powerlink.emc.com) to get access to some of the software you need.

Drivers for the HBAs you can get from Qlogic's site (downloads -> EMC OEM Drivers).

Am I reading this correctly that you don't have any drives (for the CX300)?

Thanks for your response,

But the system is not in warranty. Any suggestion?

There is no other (legal) way to get the software in question, and this forum doesn't allow discussing the 'non-legal' ways to get certain (any) software.

One option could be to use VMware ESXi, as this doesn't require any software to connect to a CX-array (it's native to the OS). You can then run whatever OS you want/need as a virtual machine.

Also; if you indeed don't have the original first 5 drives of the unit, you have an expensive doorstop as the CX300 will be completely useless, even with the software.

DevMgr,

Sorry, but I don't know if this software is by licencing or not. We do not pretend use non-legal software. We bought all the server working, and at this moment we reset everything but we don't have the original cd's, drivers and software management.

Of course we lost the drivers (we installed everything at nov 2005, and the IT person is not the same) and dell can check that is true. May be, if you know that the Dell support check it and send a copy of the cd's?

Dell wouldn't send the CDs even if you were under warranty.

They would tell you to register for Powerlink access. This would give you access to the software you need. However, some of the software would require a license key to unlock certain features. E.g. for Powerpath (the failover/loadbalancing software for Windows and/or Linux) it unlocks the ability to use 2 fiber channel adapters (HBAs). This license key you'd have to get from the person/company you bought the system from, or you can buy a new license (I don't know exact pricing, but I think they are between US$1000 and 1500 per server). EMC does support Linux' native multipathing for certain versions. The Navisphere Agent isn't an absolute requirement; it registers the server with the array, but you can do this manually as well. The Navisphere Initialization utility is for setting the IP addresses on the array and creating the first username/password combo. This can also be done by serial connection, but you'd need someone that knows what he/she is doing to do that work for you as I'm not sure that that can be discussed on this forum (as it's also the way to reset the password if you forgot it).
