curious problems with AX150i

Hiho dear DELL community!

I'm currently trying to bring up a DELL/EMC AX150i storage for a testing environment. This storage was in production for about 2 years an then unused till now. Because I'm not familiar with this storage I've started to discover the manuals and FAQs. But after 1 day of testing I still can't figure out the reason for the serius behaviour.

Lets start:

The storage and the UPS (APC Smart-UPS 740) are connected as it's described in the manual and at the label on the storage itself. The UPS doesn't have any failures and the storage seems to boot up correctly. Currently Managment Port A and B are connected to a switch and also a Management to access the management ports. The SPAs are not connected to any device at the moment.

I've uninitialized the storage and started the discovery process via the initialization utility. After a minute the storage was found and I've begun with the initialization:

SPA Management: 10.10.1.1/24

SPB Management: 10.10.2.2/24

Default-Gateway: 0.0.0.0 (don't know what else to enter here)

SPA 0: 10.205.1.1/24 DC

SPA 1: 10.205.2.2/24 DC

SPB 0: 10.205.3.3/24 DC

SPB 1: 10.205.4.4/24 DC

Well, after I acknowledged these settings the storage started the reboot process as described in the manual.

After the sorage was up I brought the management Laptop into the same logical network like SPA Management and logged in. In a first step i deleted all old virtual disks. The next step was to delete the old inactive HBA entries of the previous hosts. But what ever I try, the "delete inactive HBA" procedure always finish with a success message but the HBAs (and hosts) are still present.

The next problem: When I try to access SPB Managment (after change the management Laptops network setting to match this logical network) it doesn't found a website. Not even a ping is successful.

Now it's your turn. :/

To fix the unremovable host entries you're going to have to open a case with Dell|EMC support as they'll need to use engineering tools to get into the controllers and manually remove the entries.

Also, you need to change a few things; your gateway should be your LAN's or management network/VLAN's gateway (as that's what the management ports should be plugged into. Then you need to have SPA0 and SPB0 on one subnet (e.g. 10.205.1.x/24) and SPA1 and SPB1 on a 2nd subnet (e.g. 10.205.2.x/24). SPA0 and SPB0 need to go to one switch/vlan and SPA1 and SPB1 go to a 2nd switch/vlan.

Thank you for your reply.

To split the iSCSI connetions over the SPAs sounds sensible. I'm going to fix this. But I still don't know what to use for the gateway setting - I don't use a gateway in this environment. Further I also don't really understand why to use different logical subnets for the managment ports (A/B). Ok, maybe it depends on the individual network infrastructre but in my case I don't see any reason for that.
