AX150 reports UPS Failing?

Hi All,

We have a Dell EMC AX150 with a EMC 750 UPS in a datacenter.

At least twice a day the AX150 is reporting that it requres attention and at first all the system components look fine ( have a green tick next to them) then after a while the UPS and Storage system report as transitioning.

These are the errors in the event log we recieve.

"0x0977     Power Supply A has failed or is not receiving ac power. The storage system will continue to work with power supply B. However, write cache will be disabled until Power Supply A is working. Verify the failure in Navisphere Express.

"

Note the UPS is plugged into Power Supply A.

I wasn't able to look at the UPS during this issue as the outages are happening a random points in time and the UPS in in a remote datacentre.

I did have a look at the front of the UPS today and I noticed that the "online" indicator would flash and then the battery light would come on.  Then after a while the "online" light would go solid and the "AVR Trim" also came on solid. This was happening every 30 minutes or so.

I held down the "test" button and the battery indicator light lit up all but the top one, so I think the voltage is between 248 - 266?

I think this might be why its cutting over to batterry?

I have spoken to the Data center and they have tested the voltage and stated it is stable at 248.5 volts and that we shouldn't be seeing any spikes.

I'm still hoping to be in the data center when the issue occurs so that I can get a look at the UPS.

Any suggestions as to what the issue could be?

Thanks.

I suggest you create diagnostic files, and create a case with Dell|EMC support to have them look at your logs to see if your SPS/UPS keeps trying to recharge or if there's something on the array side that's triggering the unit to want to keep restarting a recharge cycle.

In the US, Dell|EMC support is free for life, even if you're out of warranty (they just couldn't send you replacement hardware if you're out of warranty).

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I am actually based in Australia so I'm not sure about the warranty and support.

I did some more tests and discoverd as soon as I plug the AX150 into the UPS. The UPS constantly goes into "self-test" mode.

If I plug the UPS into a server it behaves fine.

It certainly seems to be something with the AX150 or possibly the sense cable?

The sense cable can cause all kind of problems.  You could order the cable from Dell, i think the part number is F9100.   I have see it report the ups online/offline alot.
