AX100 failed disk and cache memory card

Hi, All,

I have a AX100 of 12 250GB disks with one of them configured as a hot spare. Two disks failed one week ago, which caused the virtual disks unaccesiable. The strange thing is that the hot space didn't replace any one of them. It is still inactive. I was wondering how could this happen. The hot spare should have been active once there is a failed disk. Also, the cache memory card failed at the same time. Could this have something to do with the unfunctioning hot spare? Or there is any special configuration that I was missing?

By the way, does anyone know where I can get a replacement of cache memory card for an AX100? The warranty has already expired. I am trying to buy it online.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

If the 2 drives failed at exactly the same time the hotspare wouldn't have picked up as the raid set was offline before the hotspare could do anything to rebuild data.

The only way to not lose disk access when 2 drives fail simultaneously (or at least close enough together where the hotspare couldn't finish a rebuild), is to run raid 6 (not available on the AX100 or AX150) or to be running a raid 10 and be lucky enough that the 2 failed drives weren't both part of the same single mirror.

As for a partnumber for the battery backup, a bit of digging in Google got me this link; http://www.serverpartswarehouse.com/g5688.html. You can also try Dell spare parts for it.
