Anyone running DC, SQL & Exchange on single 2950 box using VMWare's Hypervisor ESX3i
Hi:
Anyone out there running a domain controller, SQL & Exchange on single 2950 box using VMWare's Hypervisor ESX3i? Is it stable, assuming RAID 10 to support I/O and sufficient memory for each?
Thank you,
BaliBob

I would recommend to have at least a (backup) domain controller running on a physical server.
Or run 2 VMs, but make sure they are not on the same physical server, the same SAN Storage solution and/or the same HA/DRS cluster (so that if the physical server and/or the SAN goes down your users can still log into the domain).

Yep our backup domain controller is a physical box, the backup domain constroller also serves as our VC License server and foundation console.
But our PDC, Exchange, a couple of SQL servers, a couple of flat file severs. lots of XP runs fine even impressively on one host. We use Raid 5 still though. Take the spindle count. :) This is using MD3000i's as our san. Also, only our SAS drive equipped sans perform impressively, our SATA equipped sans perform adaquate.
