Upgrading to Repository Manager 1.6

Hi,

I recently got prompted to update my Repository manager to v 1.6 . I decided to do the upgrade option and saw that all my repositories under the previous version were missing. I then tried the import function and when I found the correct xml file in my Appdata folders. I ran the import. This ran for 20 hours and then failed.

I thought I would move on and create some new repositories. I chose the new tab and tried to create both Customize Repository End Empty repository. Entered a name Dell xxxx, tried both source and My repository. I can only choose Precision, OptiPlex and Latitude clients. We use mainly PowerEdge servers and this option is no longer available to me. I am doing something wrong? How do I choose PowerEdge servers ?

Regards

Willis,

While creating a new repository, only those brands are listed which are available in the Source repository, which may be the Dell FTP repository or any other custom repository.

For creating repositories for PowerEdge servers:

1. Launch DRM v1.6 Data Center version from the desktop shortcut or from the Program Files from the Start menu.

2. Select View Source from the Welcome Tab or My Repositories tab to load the latest Dell FTP Enterprise catalog (unless default settings for Source has been changed to point to a local catalog)

3. From the My repository tab, click New and select Customize repository

4. Provide the name and description as suited and select the Source repository for the source of the new repository

5. Select the PowerEdge brand in the Brand selection and proceed to create repositories fro the PowerEdge servers.

Otherwise, import the catalog provided at the link below in the Data Center version of DRM v1.6 and use it as source repository to create repositories for PowerEdge servers as detailed above.

Dell FTP catalog: ftp://ftp.dell.com/catalog/catalog.cab

Pls report back if you still having issues

Thanks,
Krishna

Willis,

Also please check if you are running the Data Center Version or Business Client version of Dell Repository Manager.

The Data Center version covers all Enterprise Servers and Storage like PowerEdge, PowerVault and EqualLogic.brands. The Business Client version covers all Enterprise client brands like Latitude, Precision and OptiPlex.

Hope this information helps.

Thanks for the advice. It looks like the automatic notification and upgrade from v1.5 to v.1.6 of Dell Repository Manager has changed the flavour of the product to the Business Client version. What is the best way to upgrade to the Enterprise version ?

Willis

Thanks for that, you're right. I should have spotted that before now.

Both Business Client and Data Center versions are upgraded automatically at the same time. They both use the same codebase behind the scenes.

There are however two separate Desktop shortcuts and Programs Menu links to launch each of the versions. The Dell Repository Manager program group on your  Windows "Program Files" will have separate menus:

1. Dell Repository Manager Business Client Version

2. Dell Repository Manager Data Center Version

Please use the appropriate menu option to launch DRM in one of the two modes.
